What Are The Best Shows Like West Wing?
What should I watch if I like West Wing? If you like West Wing, I’ve compiled a list of shows to watch after it.
- The Wire
- The Blacklist
- House Of Cards
- The Newsroom
- Madame Secretary
- Designated Survivor
1. The Newsroom
Next on the list of best tv shows like West Wing is this hit political series. Aaron Sorkin created the American political drama series The Newsroom. On June 24, 2012, HBO broadcasted the first episode of the series. It finally terminated on December 14, 2014, after a run of nearly two years and three seasons.
The series goes behind the scenes at the fictional Atlantis Cable News (CAN), with a focus on anchor Will McAvoy and the rest of the newsroom’s ensemble cast. It also depicts Will’s delicate professional relationship with his ex-girlfriend turned executive producer, which adds to the show’s realism.
The Newsroom is a sitcom that any West Wing fan would like. Despite having a plot that is extremely different from most political series, one of the key parallels between it and West Wing is that they are both created by the same person.
2. The Wire
When you eventually see these TV shows like The West Wing, you will understand why I would give it an extra 5-star rating if I had the option. I think the show’s primary plot is quite simple and enjoyable, but the show’s subplots are what keep it intriguing.
Author and former police reporter David Simon developed and mostly wrote the show, which is an American crime drama television series. The series aired from June 2, 2002, to March 9, 2008, and had a total of 60 episodes spread out across five seasons.

The series is set in Baltimore, where Detective James McNulty and his squad investigate crimes and strive to break down the barrier that exists between drug lords and law enforcement authorities. The storytelling is on another level entirely.
This show has excellent writing, directing, and acting. All the political corruption, all the lazy dirty cops, the ego fuel, chain of command limits, and all the rules of war, whether you’re a cop or a street thug, are all told in this film. This show has it all, and it’s well worth your time.
Jesse Armstrong created Succession, an American satirical comedy-drama television series that is akin to The West Wing. It debuted on HBO on June 3, 2018 and has been renewed for a third season, which will premiere in October 2021.
The program follows the Logan family, who were known for owning the world’s largest media and entertainment conglomerate. When their father leaves the company, though, their life is turned upside down. What happens next will be revealed as each episode progresses.
This series is near-perfect in every way. There was not a single terrible episode in the entire season, and the best part is how each episode added to the show’s overall story, which is completely engrossing and enjoyable. I’m looking forward to the return of season three (3).
Homeland is an American espionage thriller television series created by Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa, similar to The West Wing on Netflix. The eight-episode psychological series premiered on Showtime on October 2, 2011, and will conclude on April 26, 2020.

The plot of the series was derived from the Israeli drama series “Prisoners of War.” The bold personalities and strong writing work well together. This is, without a doubt, one of the best spy or, should I say, political thrillers of all time. It’s also received accolades to prove it.
Last but not least, Scandal is a well-deserved addition to this list of TV programs similar to West Wing. The television series is a seven-season political thriller set in the United States. From April 5, 2012, through April 19, 2018, the Shonda Rhimes-created series ran on ABC.

Who, on the other hand, quickly discovers that her employees may be concealing darker truths. Members of the White House and other political power players are also featured.
This TV series will undoubtedly catch you, and it is both engaging and exciting. It gives you an inside look at life in the White House as well as the internal problems that take place behind closed doors. Abby, Harrison, and Huk are three characters I’m sure you’ll enjoy.

The show is based on a BBC drama series of the same name that aired in the 1990s. It is also based on Micheal Dobbs’ novel House of Cards, which was published in 1989. This show has won multiple honors, the most prestigious of which being the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Series.

The series covers the ascension to the presidency of Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Thomas Kirkman, who was selected the designated Survivor before an explosion at the Capitol Building killed the president and everyone in the line of succession.
The story follows Kirkman as he attempts to overcome obstacles in his quest to be recognized as a legitimate president while still keeping his family and political ambitions in check. This is one of the best television shows, similar to West Wing, and you should not miss it for whatever reason.
9. Madame Secretary
Madame Secretary, like West Wing, is an American political drama television series produced by Babara Hall. On September 21, 2014, CBS premiered the series. On December 8, 2019, the show came to an end after six (6) seasons and 120 episodes.
